Mulder gets the impression it's the neighbours that are behind the attacks so he decides to annoy them as best he can. At some point Mulder puts up a basketball net in the drive way, he also does some other stuff to annoy them.

This sounds like the episode "Arcadia" S06E After dark, Mulder brings out his basketball hoop, and Shroeder runs over to frantically argue with Mulder to put it away. Meanwhile, something comes out of the grass at Mrs. Shroeder, who screams.

Mulder chases it away, but they all notice their light has burned out. Mulder says the creature is a Tulpa, a Tibetan thoughtform, that Gogolak conjured to assure compliance with the HOA rules. There was also a surprising amount of blood in these 45 minutes. When garbage golem attacks people, there is a LOT of blood splattered about. Like seriously, it goes full-on "Friday the 13th. So yeah, I had a lot to say about this episode. I really loved it. It's very character-centric; most of the actual X-File plot is pushed to the back.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just unusual. It worked quite well in this episode. It had a lot of comedy and quite a few good scares.

I love that they're "Laura and Rob Petrie" I love the Dick Van Dyke Show I also love that this is supposed to nudge at the already obvious idea that this is "perfect" living. I love how it begins, with only subtle hints of why our well known pair of FBI agents suddenly have changed their names, married and moved into an expensive closed community which turns out to hide a dark secret.

Acting is great in this one, far better than average in this series. I especially liked the one who played "Big Mike". The episode is very funny, with quite a few bizarre scenes; also, Mulder and Scully pull jokes on each other a lot of the time. If you don't have a lot of time and only want to watch a few episodes in the series, in my opinion this should definitely be on your watchlist. Everybody's dream community Who wouldn't want to live there? Their administration slowly eating away your freedoms as citizens — too much of Big Brother watching over us.

In this Monster-of-the-Week episode you will instantly feel acquainted with The Association-esque tone --if a Bentley Little fan. To Mulder's amusement the tenants follow every extraneous order strictly, so he begins to defiantly protest as they scatter to correct it for him.

Their fear is what one may call a tulpa; the concept of a being or object which is created through sheer discipline alone, come to enact some neighborly love one might expect from a starving cannibalistic tribe. Like most HOAs or Frankensteinian Monsters for that matter which fail as a result of the people involved, the tulpa eventually turns on it's creator.

Mulder and Scully prove once again to be a winning duo with chemistry and deep character as their investigation leads them down the trail of a mysterious ancient myth set against the surreal enclave of groomed lawns and monochromatic facades.

Aside from "Wrinkle in Time" Madeleine L'Engle there are few stories about community control that ring this true. The story features ridiculous rules of conformity that would be laughable if they weren't such a reality in suburban America. As more cookie cutter homes sprout up with less than a foot distance between them, officious Home Owner's Associations will become more of a problem than a solution.

Let's put it this way: the ugliest thing Sculder and Mully uncover is far from mythic. Create a list ». Favourite The X-Files Episodes. The X-Files-Monster Episodes. See all related lists ». He finds it strange that Karin failed to mention the coincidence. Ramirez tells Mulder that Karin Matthew's father's death brought about an end of a blight affecting the trees. Karin attributes the tale to her father's stature, believing powerful men inspire fantasy. Later, Mulder digs up Mr. Matthews' casket. He finds the body missing but the casket full of roots. When Lisa's aunt, Linda, arrives at Karin's house, Karin informs her that Lisa left for a bus station. Before Linda drives off, Lisa smashes the glass of a window in the basement.

Linda rushes to her niece's aid, but she is attacked and killed by an unseen force as tree branches sway in the wind above her. Later, Bobby tells Mulder that, as part of therapy, Karin made him pretend he was Phil and that, all along, he was never a really a victim. Lisa hears the cellar door bolt slide. She stands up only to realize the unidentified male voice has been coming from Karin all along.

Scully and Mulder search Karin's house, where they come upon the corpse Lisa discovered earlier in the root cellar. Mulder concludes the body is that of Karin's father. Karin locks the agents in the root cellar, but Mulder forces it open. They find Lisa frightened but unharmed in a corner of the kitchen. Mulder attempts to pursue an escaping Karin, but his car crashes into an enormous tree.

Karin drives to the Rich residence, where she chases Bobby into the orchard. Suddenly, Bobby is dragged downward into the mud. While attempting to rescue the teenager, Mulder simultaneously encourages Karin to break the cycle and to fight the voice inside her head. But Karin is unable. Mulder and Scully learned they were clones with superhuman strength and intelligence created by a secret government project, which led to increasing Mulder's paranoia concerning conspiracies.

Appearing in the season 8 episode "Badlaa," Beggar Man was a scary monster who killed people in the most horrifying way possible. Part of this is the body horror elements, with another part the mysticism that he possessed leading him to kill anyone who gets in his way.

The Beggar Man would kill someone and then hide in the victim's stomach. He was able to make it look like the person was still alive and controlled them until he found a new body to inhabit, leaving the former body behind. The entire idea that a serial killer could be small enough to crawl into a dead body and hide is terrifying.

The idea of "freaks" has been a staple of horror for years. At carnivals, they are often used to lure money out of marks and scare people simply due to their abnormalities. The horror movie Freaks showed how these people could be part of a true horror story. The X-Files took on this idea in the second season episode Humbug.

The "freaks" were former members of a circus sideshow that lived in a small community. However, one of the community members was a serial killer. It turned out to be Leonard, a parasitic twin living inside Lanny who was able to disconnect himself and kill people in an attempt to borrow their bodies. While the episode was comedic, Leonard was terrifyingly scary. Dolls are scary, and one that looks like Chinga is even worse than something like Chucky.

Chinga is a doll that looks like one your grandmother might have in her house, sitting on a shelf, appearing to follow you around the room with her eyes. These dolls are scary even when they aren't possessed. In the fifth season of The X-Files , a fisherman found the doll while fly fishing and gave it to his daughter as a gift.

Soon, witchcraft enabled Chinga to take over Polly and thanks to the little girl's short temper, caused many deaths, all by suicide.
